In 1925, 25 year old Giovanni Patritti boarded a ship and left his Piedmontese village for a brighter future. He believed he was on his way to America to meet his sister. Instead, he landed at Port Adelaide, South Australia. Just one year later, Giovanni was leasing vineyards in the Brighton district, 15km south of Adelaide City (now the City of Marion), and making wine for other ‘new Australians’. Today Patritti Wines owns some of the finest vineyards in McLaren Vale, and produces a range of wines that until recently was mainly exported or sold at cellar door. Amazingly, Patritti have never had national distribution. The brief to us was to develop a range of wines for the domestic market that would enable Patritti to attract a national distributor. Our response was to explore the Patritti family history and the importance of the company to the Australian Italian community. Since launch, Patritti have gained national distribution, with the wines attracting awards and positive reviews.
