In Praise of Shadows is a new wine company formed by wine distributor Brett Trewartha and winemaker Sam Scott. When discussing with Brett and Sam how they wanted their brand to develop, they talked about a quiet brand — one that appealed to those who appreciate and value subtlety and introspection. Junichiro Tanizak’s novel “In Praise of Shadows” reads as an essay on architectural practice, but in fact speaks to the differences between western and eastern culture, philosophy and the meaning of beauty — a perfect analogy and name for Brett and Scott’s new brand. The charcoal illustrations of impossible objects adorning the bottles continues this analogy. Were it not for shadows, there would be no beauty.
